Ingrained

Ingrained

May we be ever mindful that no matter how we try to camouflage our hearts, they are daily revealed in our thoughts, speech, and actions. Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. This sketch will serve as the basis for larger paintings of details within. The ladle in the center of the composition symbolizes that we can only serve up what we have within us. The original sketch is 11" x 14" in mixed media. I created this sketch at the kitchen table. It was just a free-flowing line that became a rhythmic heart pattern. As I started applying color, I began to see a bit of a wood grain resemblance, and I decided to call it Ingrained early in the process. That led me down the path of grains of wood and natural colors. It then took on a camouflage appearance. Still, I could see the hearts winding through. And I began to reflect on my belief that who we truly are shines through all the phases of life. Yes, we change and develop and grow, but our essence/our faith/our purpose is ingrained.
